Educator. Creator. Optimist.
When an individual is prepped with an abundance of knowledge, there is nothing that they cannot do if they put their mind to it. That is why I believe that education should be accessible to everyone. It allows individuals to become the best version of themselves and come to find and utilize their strengths. In order for students to find their educational strengths and grow as individuals, they must be placed in an appropriate environment for learning to take place, and that starts within the classroom.
I want my students to feel valued as a whole person. When a student feels valued, they feel like they have a place in the classroom. When they feel comfortable within the classroom environment, they are more confident in taking risks. I always encourage my students to share their beliefs and ideas, and I always want them to feel like my classroom is an environment free of judgment or ridicule. Taking risks and making mistakes are a crucial part of learning, and I want my students to know that there is no shame in that. Even if a student may share a wrong answer or need to rework their material, I always help them in a positive tone. I believe that positive and encouraging feedback will encourage students to keep pushing themselves through a challenge instead of giving up. I want every student who walks through my door to know that I believe in them and everything that they hope to achieve.
For myself, I hold myself to the idea that while I am a teacher while also very much still being a student. I am always trying to learn what I can do in order to be the best teacher I can be for my students. I am human, and I understand that I may not know everything and may make mistakes., However, I am always willing to learn. I believe that if an individual is not willing to learn, then they are not ready to teach. Teaching is a constantly evolving practice.
I am continuously evolving to become the best teacher I can be, so in turn, I can support my students in their quest to become the best people they can be. When we all strive to be the best versions of ourselves, effective learning will take place. I believe that when students receive this effective education, everyone benefits from the contributions they will make from their studies. I look forward to continuing to be part of many students’ quests throughout my teaching career
